Post by Dave Tye »

Hi Guys,
Just been on the Dakar site and can't see Scott showing anywhere on the 3rd stage, does anyone have any more news about this?? Hoping it is just a results cockup...

It's not looking good. We received a call from Scott's wife. They had problems with the sprocket on the first liaison. Word has it that they were assisted by a mechanic of some kind and eventually moved on to the end of the liaison with a rigged sprocket. Scott expressed concern that they may not let him start the special. He needs to get to the end of the stage to get to his spare parts to properly fix the problem.

There is a good chance that it is over for Scott and Duane and the Hog Wild Racing team. We will try to keep our hopes up until official news comes in.

Interesting developments. The tracking system showed Scott at the start of the Special for many hours while the Swiss team of Lanaro and Howald proceeded to complete the Special. The Swiss team continued on the final Liaison and seemed to be stopped for quite a long time at one point.

Mysteriously the tracking system suddenly showed both teams at the same 604km point for some time. Now it indicates that Scott and Duane are continuing to the finish of the Liaison while the Swiss team still sits at 604km.

The Standings do not reflect a Special time for Scott and Duane. My suspicion is that either they were prevented from continuing on the Special and proceeded unofficially to the end of the stage or that they were transported by a sweep vehicle. I can only speculate until we hear further. At present, Scott and Duane appear to be proceeding to the endo of the stage with about 20km to go. Perhaps the will be able to continue but may be officially out of the competition. The Swiss team is now showing moving along about 8km behind Scott.

Not sure what to believe on the tracker, but we will hope that minimally Scott is making it to the bivouac and hopefully can proceed in the race albeit unofficially.
