I don't know your clutch at all Shane but this is what i look for:

put the steels on a surface plate
if the drum is alloy then it must not have 'vee-ing' in it. this stops plates seperating.
your oil, look at the grade and viscocity
the throw of the rod that releases the pressure plate. sometimes you put in thicker plates but the rod across the gearbox needs lengthening. a steel pill will do.
check the thickness of the pack and the drum year and basket year. the thickness of the pack from zabel, has it ever changed?

Thanks for the help. By vee-ing are u referring to where the plates leave groove in the basket overtime?

No, I meant the drum. the basket tends to clear OK, it is the soft alloy drum that 'gets it'.
we look for maximum throw in the adjustment too so for instance the lever must at half pulled clutch be at 90d to the cable pulling it.
that means adjusting the pushrod.
when the clutch is released there must be no pressure from the cable, it must go slack
there will be a 'pack thickness' that the factory recommend. measure all the steels and frictions in a pack with a very-near.

bent steels are the worst part of it all, you can use a mirror or a pain of glass to check for flatness.

Hello Shane,
I would need to know which clutch you have.
Steel or aluminium basket?
Sinter or kevlar plates?
The new kevlar clutch can be adjusted with steel plates with different thicknesses.
Please send me an email frank"at"sidecarcross.de
