Age of 50 years to old for Sidecarcross ? ? ? ? ?

Post by Rien.nl »

In 2015 we will have 15% less competitors at the World Championship sidecarcross.
Even people who scored points in 2014 and have a permanent startingnumber for 2015 are not allowed to get a license anymore for reason that they have reached the age of 50 years!

Even i couldn't believe it. Normally it's a "Radio Paddock" rumor, but not this time.
This rule was already in the 2012, 2013 and 2014 FIM regulations, and still many teams over 50 years did take part on several World Championship Sidecarcross events.
But after a short message to the FIM headquarter, this rumors is confirmed as a fact for 2015.
It's really sad, those sportsmen are in good condition and healthy, so why??????

Thats why we had the attention of several international competitors and as results one of our previous World Champions wrote this letter:

In 2015, competitors of the World championship sidecarcross, are required to be of age younger then 50. Even those who have recieved points in the year 2014.
We know that this is a new rule, and lots of people have already bought their new bikes, engines and supplies.
My opinion is, that this rule should be changed, for it is not in favour of the sport itself.
People already have to undergo a physical test, created by their organisation. If they pass, they are deemed healthy enough to participate.
Beside that, the same rule used in formula one could be used. If you are 10% slower then the lead… you’re out of the race by black flag.
The newly introduced rule of age, is bad for a lot of good teams.
A few examples are: Geert de Voldere, Jean Mary Ains, and Gerrit van Werven. Ofcourse there are many more not mentioned.
Competators who’ve reached the age of 50, also take part in the qualifications, and have proven to sometimes even be faster then others.
When they aren’t fast enough, they will not qualify.
If you share our opinion on the newly added rule, in which people have to be younger than 50, and if you think this rule should be changed; please write an e-mail to cms@fim.ch .
Together we hopefully can make a change

I have checked with Eddie Herd, FIM Europe, and he assured me that this rule will not be applied in the team race at Schwedt.

Thank you, Rien! Do you know if FIM could do any exceptions just for some single GPs to let younger than 16 y.o. ride? Or its absolutely exluded?

In our case we have ride whole 2015 season in Estoanian and Latvian championships and would like to participate in 2016 Estonian and Latvian World GPs too. Just looking for information, is it possible at all

they had this rule in the isle of man manx GP many years ago. it lasted one year and was then challenged as: "age-ism" and deemed illegal to do so.

you can race any age now. if your healthy enough and you have the license = you're good enough!
