I have a KTM 550 motor. It needs a new piston, but nobody seems to make them anymore. So I thought of putting an MTH piston and cylinder on, since they seem to fit the KTM:

Are there any modifications required? Does the KTM crank and connecting rod work with MTH, or do these have to be upgraded for the MTH parts? Is any machine work required? I figured someone here has to know.
Thanks,
John

Re: MTH top end on KTM bottom end?
Hi John,
I believe at one point MTH made a specific barrel to go on to a KTM bottom end before then moving on to their complete engines.
MVP (a Russian company I believe) also built a similar conversion taking a KTM out to around 650. For the top end conversion I believe the Rod, Piston and Barrel were grafted on to the KTM bottom end with pretty successful results.
Kevin Hollister Racing (KHR) in the UK were always very knowledgeable about MTH's and may be worth a call :)
Cheers
Dave
