Round 4-AMA National Sidecar MX Series-Results

Post by Al Wenzel »

For all the Teams & Fans (and short girls),

Round 4 of the AMA National Sidecar MX series was held on Saturday, September 23rd at Sandia MX Park in Albuquerque, NM. In all we had 7 Teams competing, including 3 Heavyweight teams. This years track was far better prepared than last years event, with no trace of dust during the days racing.

The racing was some of the best all year with VMC-Zabel mounted Richard & Rick Myers taking the holeshot in moto 1 and leading for at least two laps, under the constant pressure of series points leaders Morgan Pierce & Janette Player. At a tight turn in the back section of the track, EML-Kawasaki mounted Pierce & Player bumped into Myers & Myers and sent their own outfit tumbling. Albuquerque locals Dave Hennessy & Jim Vietti stormed past the incident on their VMC-Zabel and soon took over the lead from Myers & Myers. Pierce & Player remounted and were soon hauling around the track in an attempt to catch the leaders and they did quite a good job of it, taking the second position at the end of the moto. Lance Brown & "The Iron Smurf" Dan Ecker, finished up the Championship class machines on their EML-Kawasaki, with Ecker holding on for the entire moto in fine form.

Further back were the Heavyweights of Stephen Hennessy & Joe Renschen with Allen Wenzel & Bob Brizzee in tow. Both were Wasp-Yamaha mounted. The Las Cruces, NM team of Clint Welsh & Erick Marchand met with some bad luck early on as their Wasp-Yamaha pulled a rock through the clutch mechanism, breaking it to bits and putting them out of the event. Wenzel & Brizzee took the first Heavyweight moto win, but the second moto and the overall Heavyweight win went to Hennessy & Renschen.

Moto 2 of the Championship class was a barn burner from start to finish, with a great duel between Pierce & Player and Hennessy & Vietti. At the finish it was a reverse of the finishing positions of moto 1, with Pierce & Player taking the overall win on the day.

Here are the results:
